The seventh season of Game of Thrones didn’t exactly break the Internet, but its July 16 premiere was a near thing. Not because, between live audiences, DVR recordings, and online subscriptions, over 26 million viewers watched the episode—a record-breaking first for the TV network. This number would be a lot more impressive if it included all of the people who watched the episode illegally. With pirate viewership included in the mix, it’s safe to say over 100 million people tuned into the premiere.

Despite the term pirate, there’s no need to navigate your way through the uncharted waters of the dark web to get your fix. Millions of ordinary people can find streams and downloads of their favorite show with a few clicks and swipes, all from the safety of their home.

People are watching without paying HBO for that right. Some are hosting Game of Thrones viewing parties as they use TV boxes like Android Box to stream the channel straight to their 4K television. Others are downloading it to watch later on their iPads, tablets, and smartphones in preparation of long commutes, wait times in doctors’ offices, and even parks.

Modern day piracy has its risks—but not necessarily those that you might think. Thankfully, unlike the pirates of old—or even Euron Greyjoy of Thrones—online piracy doesn’t risk death. Unless, perhaps, you live in North Korea.

There is, however, a very real threat to your watching device of choice. Say you take your iPhone 6s or Surface Pro onto the bus or subway with the intent to watch the latest ep as you commute to work. The sweaty, rough, and overcrowded conditions of public transit aren’t ideal for a lot of reasons, but it can cause damage to your device. One wrong step or push as people pile on can catapult your tablet or smartphone out of your hands.

Unless, of course, you’ve wrapped your device in a skin from the people behind dbrand. Their engineers understand the conditions you’re up against when taking public transit, so they’ve made tablet and iPhone 6s skins that enhance the grip of your device. These skins can also help protect against scratches and scuffs that may occur on the subway car — or anywhere your day takes you. Luckily, you can find iPhone 6s skins online as you pirate the next Game of Thrones episode. But you aren’t safe just yet, as there comes another unique risk with your criminal behaviour.

HBO hopes to crack down on those streaming and downloading their creative content illegally, and they’re being vocal about their objectives. Compared to the very real and very scary ‘fire and fury’ promised by Trump, the threats laid out by HBO are tame. In fact, they’re nonexistent as the letter received by pirating fans is the equivalent of ‘um, could you maybe not?’

For the innocent few who haven’t heard, HBO’s anti-piracy partner alerts the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) of any IP addresses under its charge involved in downloading or streaming the series without “authorization”. From there, the ISP relays a message to the customers in question, stating HBO owns the exclusive rights to the show and those who download it illegally are infringing on copyright laws. It also warns viewers that downloading Game of Thrones from unknown sources could result in a security breaches—as if the television network actually cares about your computer or tablet’s security.

HBO finishes its spiel by stating:

“We also encourage you to inform the subscriber that HBO programming can easily be watched and streamed on many devices legally.”

For the guilty streamers and downloaders, this will read similar to the letter they received last year as HBO hoped to squash piracy around the premiere of its sixth season. While individuals and small websites may throw caution to the wind, the might of HBO was impressive enough to pull thousands of links offline.

Despite its best efforts, HBO has no hope of eliminating piracy. MUSO, a piracy monitoring firm based out of the UK, studied the internet traffic of over 23,000 well-known piracy websites. Nearly 85% of these sites posted unauthorized streams of the episode. Meanwhile, the premierewas pirated 91.74 million times around the world.

According to MUSO, the stat is just an estimate. The latest technical innovations in TV boxes make it incredibly easy for even novice streamers to pirate movies and TV shows from around the world. These boxes also make the act incredibly hard for firms like MUSO to track. Unlike downloading, which can be tracked by ISPs, streaming is often encrypted. These security measures muddy the waters for those hoping to track piracy, so there could be hundreds, thousands, even millions more people watching Game of Thrones illegally.

Though HBO knows you’re doing it, there’s not uch else they can do about your streaming habits beyond their letters. With numbers comes safety, so even if you received your very own letter from HBO, you’ll be safe to stream or download your favorite series.

Amazon Echo and Google Home are smart speakers that can understand your commands and perform tasks for you. It short, they are voice-powered personal assistants on hand at all times. They are used by individuals of all kinds, but what many don’t know is that they offer a wide variety of benefits for families with children too. Here are a few ways that Amazon Echo and similar devices can benefit your family.

Pure Search Engine Power

This is no doubt the most useful tool that Alexa and Google Home has to offer. At any point in time, you or your child can activate the device with one word such as “Alexa” and then ask any question. This is extremely useful for studying, cooking, or anything else. Imagine your child is doing homework, and they come to a point where they have a question to ask. Normally, they come to you and you are forced to search your brain for the twenty-sixth president of the United States. Now, all you have to do is say, “Alexa, who was the twenty-sixth president of the United States?” and she will spout out an answer like, “The twenty-sixth president of the United States was Theodore Roosevelt.” She may even add some extra quick facts, such as birth, death, and famous quotes. Cooking and need a conversion, just ask her, “How many tablespoons are in a cup?” or “What’s a good substitute for sugar?”

Conversation Pieces

When everyone gets home from school, work, and practice, it’s nice to sit around the table and talk about your day. But sometimes, it’s hard to find a topic after the overviews are finished. With these devices, you can say things like, “I’m feeling lucky,” or “give me a random fact.” This is a great way to get to know each other even better. Alexa loves to get the conversation going with fun info. You can even tell the device to give you trivia questions for a fun game or solve a debate with a dice roll. Want to learn a language together? Alexa is a great teacher. Ask her to say anything in nearly any language you can imagine.

Music on Hand

Whether you like listening to music while cleaning, having a family game night, or even dancing, these systems are there for you. They can use Pandora, Spotify, or downloaded music. You can customize lullaby lists to put your baby to sleep, instrumentals for our child’s singing lessons, or a compiled list of the family’s favorite songs. The best part is that they can be played with just a short command. Not only that, but you can turn it up, down, on, or off with your voice as well. Can’t agree on a song, take turns by naming which song each person wants to play next.

Shopping Made Easy

How many times a week do you hear, “Mom, we need toothpaste!” or “We’re out of cereal again.” With these personal assistants, they can skip telling you and add it to the list with their voice no matter how small they are. It won’t be purchased this way, but Google and Alexa will add them to your phone’s shopping list. You can sync the list to your phone or send it to the kids or your spouse. If you don’t know if a said retailer or grocery store has an item in stock, you can check that too. “Does Wal-Mart have Cap’n Crunch?” There may be more than one way to find out, but none of them are as easy as asking your personal assistant who can have an answer in five seconds or less. If she doesn’t know, she can set your reservations for your favorite restaurant or order a pizza instead.

Total Control

Need to set an alarm for school or work? No problem with Alexa. What about setting a bedtime? Just tell the device that your child needs to go to bed at a set time. What’s even crazier is that you can program her to shut the garage door, turn off the kitchen lights, or even turn the coffee pot on.v

Conclusion

Devices like Amazon Echo and Google home are a complete asset for anyone, but especially families. Not only is the ease of access nice. With less time spent on grocery lists, asking questions, setting alarms, and even turning off the lights, there is more time to spend together. That is always a good thing!

Buying a new home is both an exciting yet daunting experience for many new and even experienced homeowners. The checklist of what to do is endless with plenty of inspections and other odds and ends. It’s a lengthy process due to inexperience between the buyer and seller. But mostly because of how many people are involved to close on the home. This includes contractors, inspectors, attorneys, real estate agents, local government, and others. Finding the ideal mailbox or purchasing a new area rug for the living room unfortunately does not come until much later than most imagine.

Buying a New Mailbox

Let us assume you have closed on your new home and it is the right time to begin making it your own. It may seem odd to think about buying a new mailbox when you get your new house. However, mailboxes can influence the look of your house because it is pretty much the first part that most will see. When shopping for the ideal mailbox you can check out specialty stores online, like MailboxWorks.com, for a great selection of mailboxes that come in all different styles and materials.  Some new homeowners can feel nervous about digging a hole in his or her yard to set up the mailbox. These services can also do the dirty work for you. It is common to have a company representative come out to do this. In the case of Mailbox Works, a customer can dial 811 and the company can put you in touch your new utility company to send someone out to mark all of the utilities.

Get Some New Lighting

If the lighting in your new home has not been updated for a while it may be the right time to brighten the new home. Finding new lighting is actually easy and cheap to purchase and install in each room. Modern lighting has an interesting affect by making a home feel larger and warmer.  It’s as easy as spray=painting the home’s fixtures and installing high quality lights. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that for your own safety it may be a good idea to hire an electrician to install the fixtures properly.

Renovate Your Entrance

Front entrances can be boring if not done right. It’s an idea that only the wealthy can have entrances with sculptures and extravagant walkways. Those can be expensive for sure; however, there are other ways to liven up a front entrance.

Believe it or not, hardware stores sell economical outdoor lights to use for a walkway. The most important upgrade is well placed potted plants that can complete the home by filling up space with nature

Between finding a new mailbox, making a walkway, and placing some plants should feel proud the exterior of the house. There are too many simple ideas to consider when it comes to upgrading your new house. Of course the granite counters are tempting but just take it one step at a time.

Based on societal observation, it is not a secret that women make up for the larger segment in regular wine consumers.

After all, wine is our go to drink whether we are having a casual get together, a fancy dinner party, or just a lazy afternoon as we take a raincheck from day to day responsibilities on our days off.

It would also not be incorrect to state that taking a leaf out of Olivia Pope’s book for the love of wine is something that almost all of us have done – and continue to do – as we binge watch a new TV show or make our way through an interesting book. It is not shocking when you think about it either; after all, wine is one of the most versatile drinks known to the humankind that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of alcohol consumers.

That is why, when it comes to finding a bargain on wine glasses or a discount deal on an exceptional wine club membership, we are right in line to get the most out of consuming this proverbial nectar of the Gods.

And when these several reflections come together in a holistic manner, it is all too exciting to not be shared within our little community here.

So let’s go ahead and read about what other wine consumers – mostly women like us – are thinking when it comes to drinking wine.

Women Wine Consumption Trends

Before we get into the nitty gritty of 2018 wine trends, it would be prudent to mention that the observation of women being prevalent wine consumers has been proven by numerous research studies, where one of the most credible of these projects was presented in 2017.

According to E. & J. Gallo Winery, one of the biggest wineries in the United States, around 60% of wine consumers are women.

E. & J. Gallo also found that one of the major reasons of this trend was women getting together on social gatherings such as casual lunches, brunches and weekend hangouts more often than men. This ability to connect with their peers more often gives women plenty of opportunities to open a bottle of their favorite red, white or rose and enjoy it with their loved ones with some much needed chatter.

And now, to the latest market trends (with a wine glass in our hands, of course)!

Wine is a Source of Fun

In its 2018 market research, the company also noted that a whopping 82% of wine drinkers drink it solely for fun, where they are looking at a glass of wine as a reason to unwind.

A glass of wine when consumed in moderation can truly enhance your mood on a joyous occasion, or even uplift your spirits when you are feeling just a bit down and out.

Consumers are Looking for Timely Shopping Experiences

This notion of buying wine as a source of fun goes hand in hand with the shopping experience itself.

According to Gallo’s survey, 65% of consumers reported that they are looking for a clean and timely wine shopping experience in order to not waste much time on selecting a bottle of wine, so they could get what they like and enjoy it the way that they want without any delays.

Wine is Enjoyed More by Older Consumers

This list of facts gets even more interesting when you find out that older consumers tend to enjoy wine more than younger ones, where they also indulge in having a drink at least twice a week, as opposed to a lesser amount of younger consumers who tend to have less than that on a weekly basis.

We for one are remembering this one. After all, keeping this fact in mind the next time you are enjoying a glass of wine with your mother or your grandma might bring out a smile on anyone’s face.

Single Serve is On the Rise

You may have heard about single serve wines, which are regular wines but provided in single serving packs for those who are opposed to opening a whole bottle at once or those who do not want to spend a whopping amount on a Coravin contraption.

According to the research, this trend is gaining gradual yet noticeable traction, where 25% of wine consumers expressed their interest in trying out single serve wines in the near future.

Wine is There to Be Enjoyed, In Moderation

While not a part of the 2018 trends, it goes without saying that whenever you are having an alcoholic drink, even something like wine that usually has a lower alcohol by volume (ABV), you need to ensure that you are not overdoing it in order to take the utmost care of your health and your loved ones’ well-being as well.

If you remember this golden rule, then the wine world is your oyster to enjoy.

So keep these trends in mind and shop happily, and if you have not already done so, schedule a few wine tours or join a wine club in order to enjoy your drinks in the company of like minded people who enjoy wine just as much as you do. It really makes a difference when you get to meet people who share the same interests as you do and goes a long way in terms of character building and social quality of life.

When we look at the most beautiful women in the world, now and in the past, one of the key things to remember is that their looks come at a financial cost.  The beauty industry here in the UK is worth billions and most women spend hundreds, even thousands, each year on beauty products and treatments.

What the celebrities spend

Let’s look at the top end of the scale to start with – what the celebrities spend to look at good as they do.  Two popular current examples are Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, with millions of social media followers, huge TV shows and the adoration of fans around the world.

According to a survey conducted by My Voucher Codes, this comes at a substantial cost both financially and in terms of time.  According to the study, Kim Kardashian takes at least two hours to do her makeup and uses around £2300 worth of products as part of that daily routine.  Of course, she also makes a fortune from her own range of products that is worth around £2.8 million.

Likewise, Kylie Jenner spends around two hours doing her makeup and spends around £2800 every time.  But again, she also generates a huge amount of income from selling these products to others with her income from beauty products, clothing books, posters and other merchandise said to total around £16.5 million a year.

Beauty vloggers

Nor is it just the very top level of celebrities that are making money from their beauty regimes and from their social media following.  Flux Magazine looked at the top beauty vloggers and bloggers to see what kind of following and income they have:

  • Michelle Phan – subscribers: 6 million, earnings £2.1 million a year
  • Zoella – subscribers: 4 million, earnings £50k a month
  • Tanya Burr – subscribers: 2.8 million, earnings £20k a month

When you look at the amount of month most people spend on beauty products, this all makes perfect sense.  For example, the 19-24 age group spend over £1700 a year on such products while their 25-34 age group increase this to over £2000.  It increases another £100 a year in the 35-44 age group and another £100 again in the 45-54 age group.  The last group, 55-64, reduces slightly but still spend an average £2190 a year on such products.

Saving money

Of course, there are ways to save money on these beauty products.  Watching for sales is one effective way while searching for discount vouchers can see a substantial saving.  Trying beauty boxes is another way to get the best products for a bargain price with companies such as Glossybox and Birchbox offering a range of travel or full sized items for as little as £10 a time.
